Monmouth County Sheriff Kim Guadagno recently announced that the Monmouth County Correctional Institution and the Monmouth County Youth Detention Center have been reaccredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA).

Both county facilities are in Freehold Township.

"This is a significant accomplishment for our office," Guadagno said. "Being nationally reaccredited formally recognizes that the services we provide continue to meet or exceed the practices of the top correctional facilities in the nation."

According to a press release, the Monmouth County Correctional Institution is a 1,328-bed facility, which houses county, state and federal inmates as well as immigration and customs enforcement detainees.

The Monmouth County Youth Detention Center is a 40-bed facility that provides secure detention for juveniles.

In May, both facilities successfully completed a comprehensive audit by representatives of the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections. Both facilities received 100 percent in mandatory standards, and 99.4 percent (county jail) and 98.8 percent (youth detention center) in nonmandatory standards.
