A Benton County (Ark.) detention officer was arrested Thursday on charges of sexual indecency against a female inmate. Officials said Anthony Patrick Fine was released from his duties at the jail and was arrested for sexual assault. Fine had been on the job for three weeks. Capt. Michael Sydoriak said the female inmate accused Fine of making sexual comments Tuesday before buzzing out of her cell and taking her into the jail's control center. The control center, Sydoriak said, is where the alleged sexual assault happened. "He took her out and exposed himself and made her touch him," Sydoriak said. According to the police report, Fine allegedly assaulted the inmate while the other two female deputies on duty with him took a break. When the alleged incident was over, the inmate told one of Fine's supervisors everything that happened. Sydoriak said Fine later admitted to the alleged assault. According to jail officials, there are safeguards to help prevent incidents of sexual assault. At all times, there are both male and female officers on duty to monitor the inmates. The department also does an extensive background check on all of its detention deputies, which Fine passed. The inmate who accused Fine of assaulting her is still behind bars on a suspended license conviction. Fine faces a charge of third-degree sexual assault -- a Class C felony that carries a sentence of up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000. His arraignment is scheduled for late June. |
