HATTIESBURG — Hattiesburg police are investigating a one-vehicle accident Sunday that left the 50-year-old driver of a prisoner transport van dead and three passengers seriously injured. Police would not release the name of the driver who was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred about 7 a.m., less than one mile north of Hardy Street on I-59. All passengers were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Police spokesman Synarus Green said the van contained three guards, including the driver, and nine prisoners. All of the passengers had to be cut from the wreckage. A guard and two prisoners remained in critical condition late Sunday. Read More. |
