| Ringleader of break-ins gets 9 years |

COLUMBUS -- Larry J. Utley II wanted a federal judge to reduce his prison sentence and to place him in a facility that would be close to his 12 children. Now Utley will be spending the next 115 months in a federal prison. He was found guilty of being the ringleader in four pharmacy break-ins in Columbus in 2007 and 2008 where more than $300,000 in prescription drugs were stolen. Utley was looking at spending at least 20 years in prison, a $1 million fine and four years of supervised release. Utley, 38, formerly of Zanesville and now of Reynoldsburg, reached a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney's Office last year, pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute narcotics, four counts of burglary of a business registered with the Drug Enforcement Administration, and two counts of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. Utley was also ordered to forfeit the vehicle used to commit the robberies and $28,660 seized in cash as proceeds of the burglaries. According to his attorney Gerald Noel Jr., Utley was neither the ringleader nor organizer of the break-ins, although he did participate in the burglary ring.
