A former Chambers County, Tex. jailer has pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct with a female inmate and has been placed on probation for seven years. Gary Hatcher also has surrendered his paramedic's license and will be barred from working in law enforcement while he is on probation as part of a plea agreement, The Baytown Sun reported in last week's editions. Hatcher faced up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Last December, five inmates at the jail said Hatcher, in exchange for sex, offered them medical attention, cigarettes and prescription medications. A grand jury indicted Hatcher in March. Under terms of the plea agreement, Hatcher must complete 400 hours of community service, submit to monthly drug tests and obtain his GED within the next year. His attorney, Paul Aman, could not immediately be reached for comment. Sheriff Monroe Kreuzer said his department is trying to ensure a similar situation doesn't happen again. |
