Portland attorney and former corrections officer, Bruce McCain, filed Thursday, to run for the position of Multnomah County sheriff. Kristian Foden-Vencil reports. McCain filed two days after sheriff, Bob Skipper, announced he’s giving up his fight to keep the job. Skipper had problems passing the re-certification test after coming out of retirement. McCain retired earlier this year and also hasn’t been re-certified. He says passing the test won’t be a problem. He praised Lieutenant Dan Staton, whom Skipper endorsed for the job. Bruce McCain: “Dan Staton is a very nice fellow. He worked for me when I was the captain in internal affairs. He was a sergeant at the time. I frankly agree with what he said yesterday at the press conference, that this is coming too early for him.” Read More. |

McCain has come from the jail whereas Staton is well versed in the LE side. I think McCain would be far less likely to sell out the "jailguards" side of the Office than Staton would. I also believe that McCain would be balanced in the overall scheme of the Sheriff's position. I don't believe Staton would have ever dreamed of being Sheriff if it were not for Skipper's endorsement.
