SACRAMENTO, CA - A trial date has been set in the case of a former Sacramento County sheriff's deputy charged with gunning down a correctional officer investigators say he believed was having an affair with his wife.

At Chu Vue's preliminary hearing in Sacramento County Superior Court on Wednesday, Judge Ronald W. Tochterman ruled there was sufficient evidence to hold Vue, 44, over for trial.

Investigators believe Vue was the mastermind behind the Oct. 15, 2008 killing of Steve Lo, a correctional officer at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville. Lo was fatally shot in the garage of his Elk Grove home as he prepared to leave for work.

Vue has been charged with first-degree murder, harboring and concealing suspected accomplices, unlawful access without permission use of data from his work computer, and access without permission of computer system.

Another defendant in the case, Vue's friend Lang Vue (no relation), was ordered to stand trial on murder, and harbor and concealment charges.

Chu Vue's brothers Chong and Gary Vue have also been charged with Lo's murder. They are in custody in Minnesota on an unrelated murder charge.

Four others, including Lang Vue's brothers Mason and Lee Vue; Chu Vue's friend Khou Vue; and Chu Vue's sister Allyssa Vue, have been charged as accessories after the fact.
