| Arizona's juvenile jails free of suicides since '03 |

Suicides at the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections have fallen to zero following the implementation of prevention practices, according to an audit released Wednesday. The report by the Arizona Auditor General found that there has been no successful suicide attempt in a juvenile corrections facility since 2003. Over the past two years, juvenile facilities have averaged fewer than one suicide attempt per month. The results represent a turnaround from earlier this decade, when there were three suicides in juvenile corrections facilities between 2002 and 2003. The first of those suicides prompted the Department of Justice to investigate whether the constitutional rights of the incarcerated juveniles had been violated. Read More. |
