A University of Toledo, Ohio freshman was found hanged in his jail cell hours before he was to appear at a bond hearing on a rape charge, Licking County sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies said they were getting inmates at the county jail ready for breakfast about 6 a.m. last week when they discovered the body of Christopher M. Dawson, 19, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, near Columbus.

Mr. Dawson had used a bedsheet to hang himself, deputies said.

A UT officer on Thursday arrested Mr. Dawson in Stranahan Hall before a class he was to attend, UT police Chief John Dauer said.

Mr. Dawson was held overnight in the Lucas County Jail and was transported Friday to Licking County.

Mr. Dawson, a prebusiness major at UT, was charged with breaking into a woman's home Aug. 23 and raping her.
