Jail inmates use socks, underwear to clog sewage pipes

For more than seven hours last Thursday, Santa Clara (Calif.) County's old jail went to the dumps after a sewage snafu forced officials to shut off the plumbing.
During that time the 568 inmates, jail officers and visitors could not flush any of the hundreds of toilets at the North San Pedro Street building.
The culprit was traced to the boiler room, where contractors had to clear pipes clogged with rolled-up socks and underwear, an inmate tactic to create problems, said jail spokesman Mark Cursi.
The problem was first reported about 7:30 a.m., but help didn't arrive until more than two hours later, he said.
Relief finally came about 2:45 p.m., when the contractor finished the work.
Cursi said there were no ``incidents'' at the jail related to the plumbing problem last Thursday.
``We didn't have any rioting or anything like that,'' he said. ``It was an uncomfortable situation that we all had to deal with.''
The toilets at the neighboring Main Jail and Hall of Justice were not affected.

Unfortunately then don’t have an easy plumber available in jails to fix the problem. They need to learn more about plumbing app so that next time they can get help.
