NORFOLK - A federal judge sentenced a Norfolk woman to seven years in prison after she was convicted on charges that she fraudulently claimed thousands of dollars in insurance money after staging car accidents. Teresa R. Gallop, a 41-year-old woman who also goes by the name Teresa R. Vick, was convicted in March of health care fraud and making false statements relating to health care matters. On Monday. U.S. District Judge Henry C. Morgan Jr. sentenced her to seven years in prison and ordered her to pay restitution in the amount of $49,111.54 to the auto insurance companies that sustained losses. Sentencing guidelines called for a shorter prison term of 63-78 months, but prosecutors asked for a harsher sentence in part because of Gallop's criminal history, which included 60 prior felony convictions and a guilty plea to manslaughter in the 1988 shooting death of a man who fathered two of her sons.
