An inmate who escaped from Bayside State Prison in New Jersey earlier this year was captured after authorities found him hiding in a sofa bed inside a Philadelphia apartment.
A spokesman for the state Department of Corrections says 31-year-old Mark Mitchell was serving an 18-month sentence for theft by deception when he fled from the Maurice River Township prison on January 24th. He had been there since October 2003.
Spokesman Matt Schuman says state and federal officials tracked Mitchell to a one-bedroom apartment that he had been renting, and authorities went there around 11 p-m last Monday.
They initially could not find him, but discovered him in the sofa bed a short time later and arrested him without furhter incident. Escape charges are pending against Mitchell and, if convicted, he could face an additional five years in prison.
