| Alabama executes store owner's killer |

ATMORE, Ala., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- The state of Alabama Thursday evening executed Max Landon Payne, who spent 15 years on death row for the shotgun slaying of a store owner. Payne, 38, who was put to death by lethal injection at 6:25 p.m. at Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, was the sixth person to be executed in Alabama this year, The Birmingham News reported. Payne had been convicted of robbing, kidnapping and killing Cullman County store owner Braxton Brown in 1992. He had been on death row since 1994. Read More. |
