CHARLES TOWN - A former Jefferson County man convicted in August of 70 sexual abuse-related charges was sentenced Monday to a combined indeterminate sentence of 100 to 200 years in prison. Kevin Wayne Oaks, 48, formerly of Shannondale, was found guilty by a jury of 50 counts of felony sexual abuse by a parent, custodian or guardian and 20 felony counts of third-degree sexual assault after a five-day trial in Jefferson County Circuit Court. He was accused of sexually abusing a juvenile girl between 2001 and 2003 when the victim was between the ages of 14 and 17 years old. Just this year, about 20 days before Oaks was to go to trial, a second victim came forward and alleged that Oaks sexually abused her between 1998 and 2002, while she was between the ages of 9 and 13. As a result, he was charged with an additional 50 counts of sexual abuse, though he has yet to go to trial in that case. Read More. |
