October 19, 2009 Escapee captured

Phoenix, Ariz.- An escaped inmate from the Arizona State Prison Complex - Florence was captured late Monday afternoon in Pinal County.

Two Arizona Department of Corrections officers and a Pinal County Sheriff’s Deputy, along with a K-9, tracked Yelson Moreno to a field near a chili farm near Casa Grande. Moreno was tackled and then taken into custody. He is being sent to a maximum security unit at the Arizona State Prison Complex - Eyman.

“I want to thank everyone and each agency involved in recapturing this escapee,” Corrections Director Charles L. Ryan said. “Quick action, hard work and long hours for many in our law enforcement community ensured this inmate was returned to prison.”

Moreno, a Mexican national, came to the department on June 23 to begin a 30-month sentence for theft. He cut a hole in a fence at the minimum security North Unit Sunday morning.

ADC was joined by several police agencies, including Florence, Casa Grande and Gila River Indian Community police departments and Arizona Department of Public Safety.
