The warden of the Illinois prison where a former Oakwood Hills man was found dying in his cell has been fired, a state department of corrections spokesman said last Tuesday. Menard prison, the warden of Menard prison in Chester, was removed from duty six months after Charles Platcher died of hypothermia at a nearby hospital. After the incident, a prison nurse was fired, and a nurse and a correctional officer were disciplined. Sergio Molina, a spokesman for the Illinois Department of Corrections, would not comment about whether McAdory was fired because of Platcher's death. "He was just informed that his services were no longer needed," Molina said. Molina said other prison employees could be disciplined. The Randolph County state's attorney's office has not ruled out possible criminal charges. Platcher's father, John Platcher of Ozark, Mo., said last Tuesday that he did not hold the warden directly responsible for his son's death. He said prison workers who supervised his son should face criminal charges. Platcher, 31, was serving a 40-year sentence for stabbing his mother to death and trying to kill her companion in 1999. He died Dec. 25 after he was transported from a prison medical unit at Menard. |
