We don’t need speculation to add to the fear over Somer Thompson

“What is your gut telling you happened here?”

It would be one thing if that question had been asked — and answered — in a different setting by a different person. But this was national television, ABC’s “Good Morning America.” And it was an interview with John Walsh, host of Fox’s “America’s Most Wanted.”

Based on his experience and his insight from talking to Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler, Walsh was asked by GMA host Robin Roberts what was his gut telling him?

“The sheriff and I both feel that it was a predator who’s probably done it before,” Walsh said. “I don’t know if it’s the same guy, but 20 years ago there were four kidnappings of small children in the Jacksonville area. … I would hate to think this is a serial child killer who has raised his ugly head.”

If it had been a blogger speculating what happened to Somer Thompson, this wouldn’t have created a ripple. It would have disappeared into the cacophony of the Internet.
