SAN ANGELO, Texas — A raindrop saved is a raindrop earned. That’s the idea behind the rainwater collection system that Billy Kniffen, a water resources specialist, installed at the Roy K. Robb Men’s Community Correctional Facility. “In this part of the country, water conservation is a big thing, and we can use that rainwater for all the plants they’re putting in out there,” said Frank Tipton, the facility director. Residents will use the rainwater for their horticulture and gardening program using a 3,000 gallon tank and a drip system that Kniffen put in for the gardens. Kniffen said that five inches of rain on the facility’s rooftop will fill the tank completely, and the project isn’t using the full length of the roof so as not to overwhelm the gutters. Read More. |
