| Correctional guard faces charges |

STAUNTON — A former prison guard at Augusta Correctional Center in Craigsville who was snared in a county amid a drug investigation now faces an additional charge of accepting a bribe, Augusta County Circuit Court records show. April M. Hogsett, 26, of Doe Hill was arrested Aug. 1 and charged with delivering marijuana to an inmate, according to a county search warrant. The bribery charge was the result of a direct indictment handed down by the Augusta County grand jury last week. Special Agent Lawrence Drury III of the Office of the Inspector General obtained a search warrant in August for Hogsett's 2003 Chevrolet after a prison informant contacted authorities. The informant said he helped another inmate, Anthony Roach, distribute marijuana to other inmates at the prison, and said Roach and a second woman, Kelly Morris, conspired with Hogsett in the drug operation. Court records state money orders were sent from prisoners to Morris. Phone records show that Hogsett and Morris made frequent calls to one another, and the warrant said the two met in person "on more than once occasion." Authorities seized a cell phone, letters and a box of small plastic bags from Hogsett's car, according to court records. Read More. |
