Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik pleaded guilty to eight felonies Thursday and is likely to face more than two years in prison. Kerik, 54, who was hailed as a hero in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, along with his friend and political ally, Rudolph Giuliani, admitted to tax fraud, lying on a mortgage application and lying to White House officials who vetted him for various Homeland Security positions - including secretary of the Department of Homeland Security following President George W. Bush's nomination of him in late 2004. Eight times, U.S. District Judge Stephen C. Robinson asked Kerik for his plea to crimes covering what would have resulted in three trials if Kerik had not pleaded.
