Michigan state prisons may get their first doses of Swine Flu vaccine later this week. The Department of Community Health expects to submit a request to the Centers for Disease Control in the next day or so for about 14 hundred doses of the H1N1 vaccine. The shipment may come as soon as Friday. The vaccine is intended for state inmates who are either pregnant or with health conditions that put them at risk for serious complications if they catch the Swine Flu. State Corrections medical staff and prison guards who would come into contact with infected inmates would also be eligible to get the vaccine. State prisons spokesman John Cordell says the Corrections Department has a constitutional obligation to provide appropriate health care to prisoners. Read More. |
