Weldon Marc Gilbert was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison Monday afternoon. The wealthy Lake Tapps pilot pleaded guilty in April to 35 child-sex charges in federal court. U.S. District Court Judge Benjamin Settle gave Gilbert the maximum sentence, and said he left "human wreckage" in his wake. "There are no adequate words to describe the horrors the victims had to suffer," Settle said during the sentencing. At the hearing, Gilbert apologized for his actions. "I never meant to hurt anyone," he said. "And yet I did, over and over again." Prosecutors asked for the maximum sentence, saying that Gilbert "is one of the most prolific and dangerous predators ever charged in this District." "For the better part of two decades, he serially molested child after child, creating hundreds of pornographic videotapes memorializing the abuse," the government's sentencing memorandum states. "Investigators found hundreds of individual scenes of child pornography that Gilbert created for a singular reason - to satisfy his sadistic sexual urges." Read More. |
