NEWARK -- A woman who had been a dental hygienist at Northern State Prison has pleaded guilty to providing one of the inmates, her boyfriend, with a cell phone, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office announced today. Bobbi Mackey, 40, of Maplewood, admitted on Monday to the charge of providing an electronic device — the cell phone — to an inmate while she was employed as a contract service provider to the prison in Newark. The guilty plea coincides with the state’s aggressive new approach to prosecuting inmates found with cell phones, and employees who smuggle them. Northern State Prison has been the worst offender in that category, officials said, with almost a third of all phones confiscated in the past year discovered there. Read More. |
