A Gaffney teen on Wednesday received a life prison sentence after jurors found him guilty of masterminding a home invasion and the related beating of a woman and store robbery.

Circuit Judge Derham Cole sentenced John Bonner, 18, to life without parole after jurors found him guilty of first-degree burglary, kidnapping, armed robbery, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, second-degree burglary and grand larceny.

Seventh Circuit Principal Deputy Solicitor Barry Barnette praised the victim's "bravery to testify" and confront the "ringleader" of a group of eight men who stalked the woman outside her Providence Road residence, adjacent to Corner Stop No. 2, which the victim's family owns and operates, on April 2, 2008.

Bonner never admitted his involvement. He testified, claiming he wasn't there, but prosecutors exposed inconsistencies between his testimony and that of witnesses called by the defense. Four co-defendants, who had already entered guilty pleas, testified that Bonner planned the incident after previously watching the woman take the money from the store to the house.
