| Ex-Synagro exec gets 11 months in prison |

For helping to link "Detroit" and "corruption" in the national consciousness, James Rosendall apologized Monday, telling a federal judge his role at the center of the Synagro bribery scandal "stained the good name of a city rich in history." Rosendall, 44, of Grand Rapids was sentenced to 11 months in federal prison and ordered to pay a $200,000 fine for helping bribe Detroit officials to win approval for Houston-based Synagro's $1.2-billion sludge disposal deal with the city. "Words cannot adequately convey the sorrow and regret I feel for what I did. ... My zeal and selfish acts caused a lot of harm," said Rosendall, who faced up to 5 years in prison but won a more lenient sentence by cooperating with federal investigators. U.S. District Court Judge Avern Cohn, who sentenced Rosendall, told him: "Simply put, you corrupted the process of contracting in Detroit."
