A Los Olivos man convicted of 14 counts of child molestation and sexual abuse was sentenced Monday to 210 years to life in prison by Superior Court Judge Jed Beebe. Javier Aguila, 50, also was found guilty on two felony counts of dissuading a witness, and for that was sentenced to four years in prison. “The District Attorney’s Office was appalled by the conduct of the defendant, who effectively ended the childhood of these five young boys,” said Senior Deputy District Attorney Kevin Duffy, the case prosecutor. “He robbed them of their innocence in order to satisfy his own deviant sexual desires for young boys, and we are pleased with Judge Beebe’s sentence and feel the defendant deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison.” Aguila, who was dressed in jail-issued clothing, has steadfastly claimed he is innocent, according to his attorney, Michael Scott. “He maintains that this was not a fair trial, but that will be decided by an appellate court,” Scott said before the judge delivered the sentence in Santa Barbara County Superior Court in Santa Maria. Scott also reiterated that many boys had testified that Aguila is “kind and generous with his time,” as well as “conscientious.” Read More. |
