SEATTLE — A man suspected of fatally shooting four uniformed police officers was shot and killed by the police early Tuesday, after a manhunt that fanned out through Seattle and beyond, according to news reports. The suspect, Maurice Clemmons, 37, was shot and killed after he challenged Seattle police officers who had been looking for him in a working-class neighborhood in south Seattle, Ed Troyer, a spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, told local news agencies. The Seattle police said they would hold a news conference later in the morning to discuss the shooting. It was unclear exactly how the police tracked down Mr. Clemmons, or whether anyone connected with him would be charged with helping him evade law enforcement over the last two days, as scores of police officers raced to find him and offered rewards for his capture. Mr. Clemmons had a lengthy criminal history, including pending felony charges of raping a 12-year-old relative and assaulting police officers. He was released on bail last week. Read More. |
