BRIDGETON -- A state corrections officer was arrested after allegedly smuggling a large quantity of marijuana into a local prison, authorities said. Aikeem J. Williams, 24, of Glen Park Townshouses in Bridgeton, was charged Nov. 25 with a second-degree count of official misconduct, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in Cumberland County Jail on $250,000 full cash bail. Williams was arrested following a joint investigation by members of the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office Organized Crime Bureau and the Special Investigation Division at South Woods State Prison, where Williams worked. When Williams reported for work Nov. 25, authorities suspected he might be carrying illegal contraband. Before he could be brought into a room for questioning, he walked out of the prison, said Cumberland County Prosecutor Ronald J. Casella. He was intercepted before he got to his car and brought back in to the prison.
