| Judge hands down prison time to defendants in Army bribery case |

A former U.S. Army contracting officer and three of his family members were sentenced Dec. 2 for their roles in a bribery and money laundering scheme. The defendants were charged with and admitted to taking bribery payments for contracts awarded in support of the Iraq war. Judge Royal Furgeson sentenced all four defendants in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, San Antonio Division. • John L. Cockerham, 43, a major in the U.S. Army, was sentenced to 210 months in prison and ordered to pay $9.6 million in restitution. He will also serve three years of supervised release after his prison term. • Melissa Cockerham, 43, Cockerham’s wife, was sentenced to 41 months in prison and ordered to pay $1.4 million in restitution.
