| More abuse complaints arise at prison for women |

Six more current and former inmates of Oregon's prison for women are suing the state Department of Corrections, claiming that they were sexually abused and harassed by male prison employees. The latest flurry of civil suits, filed late last week in Marion County Circuit Court, brings to 11 the number of ex-convicts and current inmates suing the state for alleged sexual abuse at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. Five women previously filed lawsuits accusing the state of failing to prevent employees' sexual exploitation of inmates at the Wilsonville prison. Collectively, the pending suits seek tens of millions of dollars in damages. "Since we filed the original lawsuits, I think the state right now is trying to make some changes. Unfortunately, for these 11 women those changes are too late," Brian Lathen, a Salem attorney representing the current and former inmates, said Friday. Jeanine Hohn, a Corrections Department spokeswoman, said the agency "takes these allegations very seriously, and although we cannot comment on pending litigation, it is important to say that the DOC's leadership team has communicated a zero-tolerance position regarding sexual relationships between staff and inmates."
