New information on the five prisoners who tried to escape, leading police on a chase on Tuesday. The investigation now centers around Daniel Henry. Police say he was the driver of the stolen corrections van. The Eaton County prosecutor charged him today with eluding and fleeing police, but more charges are likely as investigators try to figure out if it was a planned escape by all 5 prisoners. Police say inmates were fixing a drain in Montcalm County when they beat up Officer Sam Olivo and took off. They were later caught in Eaton Rapids. The condition of officer Olivo is not good. He's in critical condition at Sparrow Hospital with a skull fracture and brain swelling, but he pulled through the night and he even gave a thumbs up to some family members. While everyone pulls for his recovery, the union tries to make sure something like this doesn't happen again. Now some are questioning whether they should be solo. Mel Grieshaber is with the Corrections Officers Union. He says, for years, the organization has asked for two officers to be assigned to work crews. Read More. |
