An inmate, who jail officials say fell from his bunk last week inside the Guadalupe County (Texas) Jail, was pronounced dead last Friday at University Hospital in San Antonio.
Raymond Ramos, 45, arrived voluntarily at the Guadalupe County Jail May 13 to serve a sentence for a violation of his probation.
He left the next morning on a stretcher in an Airlife helicopter.
The hospital placed Ramos on life support after he reportedly fell from the top bunk in his jail cell May 14 and struck his head on the concrete floor. He never regained consciousness.
The family, meanwhile, said it does not intend to pursue a lawsuit against the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office.
