SPRINGFIELD - Two top administrators at the state women's prison in Decatur are leaving their jobs.

The departures of assistant wardens Tony Holifield and Rebecca Bunting come against the backdrop of an ongoing review into problems with a push to release inmates before their sentences are fully served in order to reduce costs.

An Illinois Department of Corrections spokeswoman said Monday she was not aware of any connection between their departures and the department's early release programs.

"I believe that is just a coincidence," said Corrections spokeswoman Januari Smith.

Holifield, who serves as assistant warden for operations at the medium-security prison, is resigning effective Dec. 31. Smith said he intends to return to school.

Bunting, the assistant warden, plans to retire Jan. 31, Smith said.

Decatur Warden Christine Boyd remains in her post at the 527-inmate facility.

Gov. Pat Quinn on Friday named a former prosecutor to examine the Corrections Department's "meritorious good time" program, in which more than 850 inmates serving time in prisons across the state were released earlier than expected.

That program was operating at the same time Quinn had ordered the department to release up to 1,000 non-violent offenders as a way to trim $5 million in costs.
