| Pa. Officials to Send Inmates Out of State |

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections has announced where it plans to send 2,000 inmates who no longer fit into the state’s overcrowded prisons. The Pennsylvania corrections commissioner had already announced plans to move 2,000 inmates out of the state’s overcrowded prisons. Now, department spokeswoman Susan Bensinger says we know where they’re going: Muskegon, Michigan and the Green Rock Correctional Center in Virginia: “The cost will be $62 per day, per inmate. In comparison to Pennsylvania, one of our medium security prisons costs about $69-dollars per day.” But she says the prisoners won’t be able to get educational and vocational programming they get in Pennsylvania.
