A Christmas week crime spree left customers and employees in fear for their lives, and police say the culprit is a former corrections officer. North Miami Police say an armed man in a camouflage hoodie robbed the Family Dollar Store at 14610 NE 6th Avenue the morning of December 21st. They say that man is 23-year-old Urijah Robinson--a man who they say worked for the State Corrections Department as an officer for the last three years, until he was fired, or quit his job a few weeks ago. North Miami Police lieutenant Neal Cuevas said of Robinson's alleged crimes, "It's sickening to any of us who wear a uniform, and a badge and we take the oath of office." A store employee who referred to herself as "Shanni" was working when Robinson allegedly held the place up. She told CBS4 Reporter Natalia Zea how it happened. "He said 'Give me the money,' that was all he said; he told me to hurry up," said Shanni. The next night, December 22nd, police say Robinson robbed the same Family Dollar and he wore the same clothes and shoes. This time police believe he had a lookout, who was seen on surveillance video talking on a cell phone, and a right-hand man wearing all black. They all had guns. The video shows several customers rushing out of the store. Then, Christmas Eve police say Robinson again wearing the same clothes, hit another Family Dollar store, this one on West Dixie Highway near 147th Street. Realizing that this guy was truly a Family Dollar man, police warned managers at other nearby locations, including the one on 125th street and NE 4th Avenue. And lo and behold, police say Robinson poked his head into that store on Christmas Eve, asking what time they close. Employees there got his license plate number, and cops picked him up a short time later. Read More. |
