| Juvenile Corrections Cuts |

The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections took a hit of $5 million, forcing it cut some of its workforce. More than 200 officers and staff members have been layed off from the department. Now state law enforcement leaders are speaking out on the possible effects that could be brought on from further cuts to the agency. In an attempt to balance it's billion dollar budget gap. Arizona lawmakers cut nearly 7 percent of the budget from every agency in the state, including the juvenile corrections department. Executive Director Jim Mann, with the Arizona Fraternal Order of Police, said, "I supported that because obviously our budget is seriously out of balance, and it wasn't targetting any particular agency, it was just a percentage cut from all agencies." Those cuts forced the removal of more than 200 officers and staff members at juvenile correction facilities around the state. Some lawmakers say with the increasing number of young inmates, those layoffs put the other employees in danger. Arizona law enforcement leaders fear many of the state's juvenile detention centers will be forced to close and combine with other facilities. That could cause overcrowding, and could prompt for the release of many dangerous inmates.
