Date: January 4, 2010 For information contact: Melinda Brazzale, Public Information Officer, 307.777.6085, mbrazz@wdoc.state.wy.us Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution Open Houses and Public Tours this Coming Weekend The public is reminded that the brand new Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington, Wyoming, is holding public tours this coming weekend. The open houses and tours will be on Friday, January 8, starting at 1:00 p.m. to the last tour beginning at 8:00 p.m.; on Saturday, January 9, starting at 8:00 a.m. and the last tour will begin at 5:00 p.m.; and Sunday, January 10, starting at 1:00 p.m. to the last tour beginning at 5:00 p.m. During the open houses, the public will be able to talk to staff members about employment and volunteer opportunities. On Friday, December 4, 2009, the Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) accepted official possession of the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI) in Torrington, Wyoming, from Layton Construction. The WMCI has been under construction over the past two years and will start accepting inmates in early 2010. The facility encompasses approximately 347,000 square feet, will employ 350 staff members and will house 700 medium security male inmates when full. The total project cost is approximately $128 million. Those people who come to the open houses are reminded that even though no inmates will yet occupy the facility that no electronic devices (including cell phones), knives, firearms or tobacco products will be allowed in this facility during the events.
