Governor Rejects Idea of Releasing Prisoners Early to Cut Budget

We have told you about the proposal to release thousands of jail inmates in Tennessee to cut the budget.

It was a worst case scenario by the Corrections Commissioner to meet the governor's budget cut proposals. And it would only apply to non-violent felons.

But the Commissioner has since resigned.

And now Governor Bredesen has officially said he is rejecting the idea. He says it really wouldn't save that much money because local inmates would just replace the state prisoners that were released.
