High Springs man caught drinking

A High Springs man with an extensive criminal history in Alachua and Marion counties was drinking from a gin bottle when he was arrested early Wednesday.

Gainesville Police said Timothy Hampton, 45, refused to submit to a breath test. Court records show he has refused to take the test four times previously when arrested for DUI. Hampton reportedly explained his decision not to take the test Wednesday morning by telling Officer Stephen Ruck, "Because we know that I'm drunk."

Hampton was pulled over at 1:19 a.m. in the 900 block of Southwest 6th Street for allegedly swerving in and out of traffic lanes while driving a 1979 Chevrolet.

Court records show Hampton has been declared a habitual traffic offender and that his license was most recently suspended on April 23rd. Florida
