| Jail riot called province's biggest in two decades |

SAINT JOHN - A riot that erupted in the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre over the weekend was bigger than any uprising that shook adult institutions in the province in at least the past two decades, a government spokeswoman says. "This is an isolated and very rare occurrence to have a group disturbance," Meghan Cumby said Monday. "The last group disturbance in an adult provincial facility to the knowledge of the Department of Public Safety staff was in the '90s. There was one, maybe two in that period, but they were not of this magnitude." About 16 inmates barricaded themselves in a living unit Saturday at the jail on Old Black River Road.
