Man gets prison for stalking, rape, murder

SHEBOYGAN — A stalker who plotted rape and murder while maintaining the public image of a hard-working family man was sentenced Friday to 18 months in prison by a judge who described him as having a "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" persona.

Two months ago, Thomas F. Schultz, 49, of Cedar Grove, was sentenced to six months in jail for a crime the judge called "not directly threatening" and the prosecutor referred to as a "complete and utter aberration." Since then, Schultz has admitted he planned to rape and kill a neighbor he had been stalking, and authorities discovered a "rape kit" he compiled, including leg irons and sex toys.

"On the one hand there is the good side … then there's the 'Mr. Hyde,' the dark side, and it is dark and it is distorted and it is twisted," Judge Terence Bourke said. "I can't help but conclude that the dark side, the 'Hyde' side, is barely kept under control."
