An assault on a difficult inmate may cost one of Hawke's Bay's longest-serving prison officers his job. Yesterday in Hastings District Court, Judge Richard Watson found that William Pakoti, 56, of Hastings, had assaulted Elfender-Lee Harmer, whom the judge described as a "very angry, persistent and difficult inmate". But he agreed not to enter a conviction pending an application to be made by defence lawyer Tony Snell, and Pakoti was remanded on bail for sentence on February 3. Read More. |
