An inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary near Florence, Colo., has been charged with the 1999 stabbing death of another inmate. A federal grand jury in Denver indicted 28-year-old Mark Jordan in connection with the death of fellow inmate David Stone, who was stabbed to death June 3, 1999. The four-count indictment - issued May 19 - charges Jordan with second-degree murder, assault with intent to commit murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. Stone was killed in yard at USP Florence during a dispute that prison officials believe was in connection with a debt. The indictment accuses Jordan of attacking Stone with a "metal shank." Jordan has been housed at ADX or Super Max section of the federal prison complex since the stabbing. If convicted, Jordan could face up to life in prison on the second-degree murder charge. The assault with intent to commit murder charge carries a maximum 20-year sentence. The assault with a dangerous weapon charge and the assault resulting in serious bodily injury charges both carry up to 10 years in prison. Federal Bureau of Prisons records indicate if Jordan is not convicted of any of the current charges, he would be released in January of 2018. |
