Two inmates try escape at Sussex State Prison

Two inmates at Sussex II State Prison in Virginia attempted to commandeer a truck and escape last Tuesday but were quickly apprehended, state corrections officials said last Wednesday.
Larry Traylor, a spokesman for the Virginia Department of Corrections, said no shots were fired and no prison staffers were seriously injured.
The escape occurred at 8:45 a.m. as four inmates were being escorted by a correctional officer away from an area on the prison grounds where they had been watering flowers and performing other maintenance duties.
As the group passed a loading dock, two of the inmates approached the driver of a tractor truck as he was attempting to secure it to a trailer. One inmate shoved the driver to the ground and the two jumped into the truck, which was unlocked and idling at the dock. The driver, apparently uninjured according to Traylor, disabled the truck's air hose, and the correctional officer radioed for assistance.
The two inmates were treated for minor injuries, Traylor said, and placed in the prison's segregation unit. Traylor said an investigation is underway with possible charges pending.
