PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says its completed an internal investigation into the release of the wrong inmate. Ahmed Ismail was mistakenly let out of jail early last month. Ismail was initially in jail on charges that he robbed a couple at gunpoint this past summer. He now faces charges of escape. Ismail was released from jail after staff members called his name instead of that of another man with a similar name. The internal investigation concluded a corrections officer and a sergeant didn't follow jail policy in the release of Ismail. Read More. |
