| Oklahoma corrections training academies to move |

The state Corrections Department in a cost-savings move is moving its correctional officer training from Wilburton to the Highway Patrol Training Center in Oklahoma City. The department also is moving a separate employee training facility from the College of Continuing Education at the University of Oklahoma to the Oklahoma City training center. The moves are expected to save the state about $600,000 without reducing services, legislative leaders said Wednesday. The staffs at the Wilburton and OU facilities are being reassigned to fill positions in the Corrections Department, they said. The move should also improve recruitment and retention efforts, as well as save some correctional officers the cost of going to southeast Oklahoma to attend the more-than-month-long training sessions.
