| Wilburton DOC school latest recession casualty |

Three state legislators for the McAlester area said today the loss of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections training academy at Eastern Oklahoma State College’s Wilburton campus is the result of record state tax cuts enacted over the past few years. EOSC President Steve Smith said he found out about the DOC’s plans to move the training center from Eastern to Oklahoma City earlier this week, when he received a letter from J’me Overstreet, the associate director of the state agency. The letter served as official written notification of the DOC’s intent to terminate the contract with Eastern to provide the training academy for cadet correctional officers from around Oklahoma.
