A prison officer has been injured after more than 100 inmates went on the rampage at a private prison last night. The disturbance, at Addiewell Prison, West Lothian, saw some inmates arm themselves with iron bars after being refused the heroin substitute methadone. One officer described the scene as “total carnage” after inmates trashed furniture and daubed the walls with graffiti. The prison officer was injured after being battered with a pool cue as prisoners barricaded themselves into one wing. Kaylx, the firm which runs the private jail, said an incident had taken place in one wing which was brought under control.
