Indianapolis, Indiana (January 28, 2010) – Yesterday, Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) Commissioner Edwin G. Buss announced new leadership assignments for the Indiana State Prison and the Westville Correctional Facility. Effective February 1, 2010, Mark Levenhagen will begin a 30-day transfer of leadership to become Superintendent of the Westville Correctional Facility. During that time, current Westville Superintendent William Wilson will assist in the transitional period. Then, effective March 1, 2010, William Wilson will become the Superintendent of the Indiana State Prison. Superintendent Wilson has led Westville over the past four years. During his tenure, he extended organizational cultural competence, oversaw the installation and test piloting of the stun fence, and realigned mental health, therapeutic communities, and re-entry practices. Wilson previously served as Assistant Superintendent at both Westville and the Indiana State Prison. Superintendent Levenhagen has led the Indiana State Prison over the past eighteen months and previously served as an Assistant Superintendent at the Prison and at Westville. Levenhagen has extensive experience and knowledge of therapeutic communities, programming, and re-entry. On February 1, 2010, Director Brett Mize will assume duties, for the 30-day transitional period, as Interim Superintendent of the Indiana State Prison. Director Mize has frequently assisted the Prison through several reviews and will be able to establish change where necessary and guide the facility during this transition period. “These men have tremendous correctional experience and are fine leaders. I look forward to the positive contributions they will make and fully support them in their new assignments,” said Commissioner Buss. |
