The superintendent of the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman is retiring. Friday is Lawrence Kelly’s last day on the job. Kelly, 50, has been superintendent since 2005. Prior to that, he was superintendent at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County. Kelly has been employed 28 years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. He began his career with MDOC in 1982 as a correctional officer at the state penitentiary. “Over the course of the past 28 years, Lawrence Kelly has made important contributions to the Mississippi Department of Corrections,” said MDOC Commissioner Chris Epps said in a statement. “His seasoned knowledge and experience has yielded a career of achievement and great respect amongst his peers.
